I'm a massive fan of homemade beauty products ... a good friend of mine in Norfolk makes THE most incredible skin cream from Centella Asiatica, Rosehip oil, Argan oil, Evening Primrose Oil, Coconut, beeswax, Aloe Vera, Cornflower, Orange blossom water, Rosewood and Rose Maroc essential oils ... I have been swearing by this cream now for two years and refuse to use anything else. About two months after I started using it, people started commenting on how lovely my skin is - that has NEVER happened to me before! actually homemade products are very safe to use too because you are mostly using herbal products and no chemicals....

I tried a recipe. Not only was it easy to do, the lip balm turned out great. Texture was fine and it seems to work.

I checked out the guidelines for brittle/liquid/solid oils and the percentages looked about the same as what I use, but don't stress out about it, you don't always have to use brittle oils if you don't have them, just up solid oils and beeswax a little bit. For those of you who want to try the more exotic oils, it will be VERY expensive for you you to do so they are expensive even when you buy them by the gallon as I do. I would suggest sticking with the oils you can easily obtain at the grocery store and you don't even have to buy "cosmetic grade" as suggested, you can just use the food grade since it is easier to get..... I sell natural lip balms to supplement my natural soap business. Whenever I have a home party to sell my wares, I always have the ladies make one of my lip balm recipies so that they can see how natural all the ingredients are. People always ask me "Why are you giving away all your secrets and showing us how to do this if you are trying to get us to buy the product?" I tell them, that it is important to me that my customers understand about the products that they are using and can see how natural they are.. and besides, are YOU going to run out and spend $50.00 so you can have 8 different carrier and essential oils in order to make a tin of lip balm that I can sell to you for three bucks?

I tried out some lip balm a little over a month ago and I'm still using it, I'll be making a new batch as soon as this runs out.

Zamma, I agree with you on letting your customers know what goes into the product before buying them, I think that alone will increase customer loyalty.

I've almost finished up with using my first batch (my beta-balm, I call it) and I'm trying to think of variations for the next one. Any suggestions?
