One bitter March day, our hot water heater gave up the ghost. I was forced to choose between a cold shower or going to work smelly with dirty hair. I chose the cold shower, and was pleasantly surprised that, after the first cruel blast, I became almost accustomed to the cold water. Not to say that I shower in cold water in any but the hottest days, but I know that should I ever need to again that it won't kill me.
