I think this is something we all neglect when it comes to what we call 'entertainment'..And I absolutley agree that the points in the article re absolutely true...there is surely a lot of wastage and filth thrown around the tracks during scuh races...

If more people starts boycotting the race I am sure, some positive action might be taken to change the racing pattern...

I think some people will find something wrong with everything.

Millions of cars drive to football games. Cancel them.

Millions drive to music concerts and some even abuse drugs there for the first time. Concerts are gateway events. Cancel them.

Millions go out to church and then eat out! Mega waste every Sunday. Cancel them. See what I mean? I think things do need to be changed, but lets think it through better. Stop the knee jerk reactions.

well in a way hurgoll is right..we all do react about things in a positive or a negative way..and yes..boycotting something is not a solution, but changing our attitudes and encouraging everyone to be a littel more concerned about hte environment s dfinitely a good idea and a start to make all events be it racing, concerts or anything more entertaining and environmental friendly..it is really not that difficult to attempt...

To be honest I never even thought about this but there are good points in the article. I think it is good to educate others about this problem because they might be unaware to the extent that it is a problem. I think that it is possible to educate and make things better then just stopping it all together.

It was the tone of the writer that bothered me mostly. I am not a race fan myself, but to act like they are all hicks was not right. So many areas of the world need changed. and to be truthful, if the changed racing to an all solar powered event I would be delighted. :)

On the whole, most entertainment should be made eco-friendly. Entertainment is not a requirement like food or shelter, so people can boycott entertainment not interested in going green. They will ultimately give in, when it will affect their earnings. Like we can boycott car racing but not regular cars as we need those for work, travel, etc.

Yep, and internet is like you are doing now is entertainment.. better start your boycott.. hehehe just playing.

I might be tarring these fans with a large brush, but NASCAR seems to be a hotbed of cultural and political conservativism. Trashing without thought, ignoring the need to recycle,and worshiping the internal combustion engine that has played a large part in our environmental crisis. I think it's a scandal, and would never attend a show, or buy anything that has the NASCAR label on it.
